Veterans Memorial Island near Aurora IL is one of the few island parks in the Fox River. It is one of the lesser-known locations to spend some quiet time away from the town’s hustle and bustle. It is located under the bridge on Illinois Avenue. Some might believe that it is difficult to access. However, they would be wrong. The island is divided into two parts connected by a short tunnel, making it an amusing site for adventurous children. The well-tended green island is dedicated to those who have served the country.

The Island is part of the Fox Valley Park District. The district maintains 168 parks, each with its distinct features. Several park guidelines need to be followed to keep the memorial island the serene place it is. These guidelines include dogs being restrained by a leash, no hunting or mistreatment of animals and wildlife. To fish in the lake, you must possess a valid Fishing License—also, no motorised boats, sailboards or jet skis on any water under the Park District control. The Veteran Island also does not have any proper receptacles for fires needed for BBQ or bonfire.

Unlike other parks maintained by the Fox Valley District, the Veterans Memorial Island does not include a shelter, playground, ball field and walking path. However, if you’re looking to spend some time just relaxing in a beautiful green environment, the island is the perfect spot. If you’re close by and need a place to stop and take time to honor the sacrifice of those before us, come down to the island.
