Ductless Mini-Split System Installation and Service in Des Plaines, IL
A ductless mini-split system is one of the most flexible and efficient ways to heat and cool your Des Plaines home, whether you are adding a new room, updating an older property, or simply looking for better control over your indoor comfort. McNally’s Heating and Cooling brings trusted, locally rooted expertise to every mini-split installation and service call in the area.
Why Ductless Mini-Splits Are a Smart Fit for Des Plaines Homes
Des Plaines has a wide variety of homes, from older bungalows and split-levels near the Des Plaines River to newer additions and finished spaces throughout the city. Many of these homes were built before central ductwork was standard, which makes ductless mini-split systems a natural and practical solution. They deliver powerful, efficient comfort without the need to tear into walls or redesign your home’s infrastructure.
Illinois winters can be brutal and the summers bring real heat and humidity, so having a system that handles both heating and cooling efficiently matters year-round. Mini-splits use inverter-driven compressors that adjust output based on demand, which means consistent temperatures and lower energy use compared to older single-stage systems. For Des Plaines homeowners looking to add comfort to a sunroom, basement, garage conversion, or a home office, a ductless system is often the most straightforward path forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a ductless mini-split system a good option for an older home in Des Plaines?
Absolutely. Many homes in Des Plaines were built decades ago and rely on radiators or baseboard heat without any ductwork at all. A ductless mini-split lets you add efficient heating and cooling to any room without the significant cost and disruption of installing a full duct system. It is one of the most practical upgrades available for older properties in this area.
Can a mini-split system handle Chicago-area winters?
Modern mini-split heat pumps are designed to operate efficiently even in very cold temperatures, and many units perform well through a typical Illinois winter. For homes in Des Plaines where temperatures regularly drop well below freezing, we can help you select a cold-climate model rated for low-temperature performance. In some cases, pairing a mini-split with a supplemental heat source is the right approach, and we will walk you through the options during your consultation.
How many zones do I need for my Des Plaines home?
The right number of zones depends on your home’s layout, how the spaces are used, and your comfort goals. A single-zone system works well for one room or addition, while multi-zone systems allow you to condition several areas independently from one outdoor unit. During our assessment, we evaluate your specific situation and recommend a configuration that makes sense for your home and budget.
Do you service mini-split systems that were not installed by McNally's?
Yes, we service and repair ductless mini-split systems regardless of who installed them or what brand is installed. If your system is not performing the way it should, our technicians can diagnose the issue and recommend the best course of action. You can schedule a service appointment online at your convenience.
